Yes, you get less illustrations, but they’re all the larger, completed ones, rather than the ones where you’re supposed to add your own doodles. (It would probably take acrylic fine too.) I would honestly say it’s worth the extra few dollars to get this instead of the main book to begin with. The paper quality is a dream come true for someone who likes to work with watercolor mediums. If you really want to keep all of your pages intact with the book, you’ll have to be careful.Īs a whole, there’s nothing to fault about this book. So easy, in fact, that I think it will be difficult to turn past the first couple of pages to color more without eventually working the pages loose. They’re all printed on one side, and they’re easy to remove. It’s still quite intricate, though, but I feel like the illustrations have mostly benefitted from the size increase in this book. Some of them are enlarged a bit, so you’ll find that there is a little more room to color with less of the teeny-tiny areas that require a sharp pencil. The illustrations are a selection of the 20 most popular from Secret Garden. You may not be able to get pencils as smooth, but you’ll be able to layer a lot. It will handle wet media extremely well and will be fine with colored pencils too. This paper is to die for! I knew it would be thick, but I was impressed with just how thick this stuff is. If you’re wondering which version of Secret Garden to get, go with this one. Other features: Glued spine makes it easy to take out individual pages.
